Mountain Area Information Network

MAIN privacy policy

On Sept. 9, 1997, the Board of Directors of the Mountain Area Information Network passed the following resolution unanimously:

"As a nonprofit community network, MAIN respects the privacy of its users and strives to protect that privacy. The MAIN Board of Directors, therefore, resolves that mailing lists of MAIN users will not be sold, shared or exchanged (except where required by law).

The board action was taken in response to a growing trend among commercial online services to sell mailing lists and other user-information to advertisers and direct-mail marketing firms, and to track user-destinations and preferences as people navigate the Internet. MAIN does not employ "user-preference" tracking software, nor does it make any other efforts to track or monitor users' online experience.
