Making new friends and learning about your new community is sometimes not easy. An organization with this as its main goal might be just what you are looking for after you unpack the boxes, hang the pictures and finally have time to become acquainted with your surroundings. Asheville New Friends is a membership organization that is ready to help you make new friends and learn more about your community.

Who Are We and What Do We Do?

Asheville New Friends is an organization of social and special interest groups whose purpose is to help newcomers and residents become more at home in the Asheville area and to make new friends. We have monthly meetings which usually include a program and a potluck dinner. Annually we have a picnic, a cocktail party and opportunities to dine out as a group.

Are You a Hiker, Bridge Player, Golfer or Just Friendly?

As you know, the Asheville area is surrounded by some of the most beautiful mountains in the world, and the area is the center for all sorts of recreational activities. If you are a hiker or golfer, you may want to participate in one of these interest groups. We also have bridge groups for men, women and couples; in-home potluck dinners for couples and potluck luncheons for women; trips visiting interesting places; groups dining together at restaurants for breakfast and lunch; and book groups.

Programs

Want to Learn More About the Asheville Area?

Many of our monthly meetings include a local speaker or entertainment. It could be someone from a local arts organization, a civic group, a university professor or a performance by a local musical or theatrical group. These activities will help you learn about the area you now call home.

Do We Have Any Publications?

Yes, we have a monthly newsletter, the Friendly Courier, to inform members of available activities, and we also furnish a directory of members.  Copies of our newsletter can be obtained from our Membership Chair.

Our on-line scrapbook gives you the opportunity to see Asheville New Friends in action.

Is There a Cost to Join?

Yes. Our annual dues are $12 per person or $24 per couple payable in June. After December 31, the dues for new members are $6 single and $12 for a couple.

You are welcome to attend a general meeting and/or another club activity before joining. Weather Related Cancellations

Meeting Cancellations

Occasionally inclement weather forces us to cancel Asheville New Friends general meetings.  We follow UNCA's lead.  When UNCA cancels its evening classes, there will be no ANF general meeting.  For information about UNCA closings, call their Snowline 259-3050.
