About the Club

Our club was established in February of 2009 as a way to promote wrestling and provide high-level coaching to wrestlers in the western part of North Carolina. We are governed by a board of directors, according to our club bylaws. Working with our athletes is a group of experienced coaches who can teach the skills of wrestling at the highest level.

Our mission is to support wrestlers and their coaches at area schools such as Tuscola and Pisgah High Schools, and Waynesville, Canton, and Bethel Middle Schools. Wrestlers from other area schools are welcome to join our club. We also want to introduce wrestling to younger students (3nd through 6th grade) who might have an interest in the sport.

Wrestling is an excellent way for young people to stay fit and active. Everyone is welcome to participate. In our club, nobody is cut from the team and nobody sits on the bench. All wrestlers can participate, both in practices and in tournaments.

Our practices begin after the high school season ends in late February.  We will hold training sessions two evenings a week from about late February until May. The club will also encourage wrestlers to attend various tournaments in the area sponsored by USA Wrestling. See the tournaments page for more information.

Joining Our Club

Our club is open to all area 3rd - 12th graders who like to wrestle or who want to learn about the sport of wrestling. New wrestlers are welcome any time. To join the club, you must have the following:  USA Wrestling membership, a completed waiver form, and club fees.

Every wrestler must join USA Wrestling (details below) and have a valid membership number before participating in any club activity. Membership fees consist of $35 for joining USA Wrestling. Wrestlers must also submit a completed "Medical Information & Waiver Form" before participating in any practices. Local club fees are $35.

If you feel that you may need assistance with the local club fees, please fill out our scholarship application and submit it to the club.

To join the club for 2010, follow these steps:

  1. Go to USA Wrestling and obtain a one-year membership (see details below).  Record your membership number.
  2. Print out the Medical Information & Waiver Form, fill in all required information, and sign the form.
  3. Write a check for $35, payable to "Haywood County Wrestling Club" .

Bring your membership number, waiver form, and check to our General Membership Meeting on Feb. 23.  Or, you can mail these three items to club at:
