Weizenblatt Gallery at Mars Hill College exhibits paintings, photographs, sculpture, and other media from local and visiting artists in rotating displays. Meet people, have fun, learn more about quilting, and participate in their nationally acclaimed show.
Since 1790 when the first pioneer walked into this mountain wilderness with a fiddle under his arm, an unbroken line of notable musicians and ballad singers have followed. Traditional mountain music is one of Madison County's most treasured handmade crafts. Madison County has been home to some of the finest fiddlers and "pickers" of the Appalachians. The mountains have nourished and sustained a musical heritage derived from the Celtic forbearers of present-day inhabitants. The annual Bascom Lamar Lunsford Festival is a significant showcase for this foot-tapping music. See also the Bluff Mountain Music Festival which is held in June each year on the grounds of the Hot Springs Spa and Resort in Hot Springs, NC. The festival is FREE to the public and features some of the region's best Traditional and Bluegrass Music followed by an evening Square Dance until dark.
The Bailey Mountain Cloggers Folk Dance Company of Mars Hill College will host the Southern Clogging Championships.
Southern Appalachian Repertory Theater (SART) at Mars Hill College is home to one of the finest local repertory theaters in the state, featuring live drama from the classics to works by local playwrights.
