These paintings and drawings reflect my early interest in depicting the world around me. Long before I embarked upon serious studies in art, I had always wanted to be able to draw. To set down upon paper what I saw before my eyes seemed to me a magical thing. It was natural that my initial interests in art lie in the direction of naturalism and realistic approaches to drawing and painting.

Though I have adopted a more expressive aesthetic for much of my current work, I continue to draw from life for the sheer pleasure of the experience. There is a certain sense of wholeness and understanding that comes with the act of seeing/drawing. My goal is an authentic visual response to significant encounters in my surroundings.
