A major update in the case of two Asheville teenagers who were charged in the death of their 3-month-old daughter.

Lacey Mathews and Winston Eccleston pleaded guilty this week to felony obstruction of justice.

The two were caring for their infant, Elizabeth, when she was found lying face down on a pillow in 2016.

Because the medical examiner could not prove that the teens putting the infant to sleep on her stomach caused the baby's death, the state dropped the homicide and child abuse charges.

Mathews and Eccleston were put on supervised probation for one year, when the case will be revisited.
