We're looking into what seems to be a police chase in East Asheville Sunday that left one car badly damaged.

Residents asked News 13 about a chase that they said happened in the area of Fairview Road around noon. We've confirmed the car chase began at the Bleachery Blvd. Walmart around the corner from the Oakley neighborhood.

The heavily damaged white car in photos shared with us by a viewer seems to have been driven by a suspect in that car chase, possibly involving a stolen car.

A Ridge Avenue resident who asked not to be named said the car crashed down by railroad tracks in the area.

An Oakley homeowner we spoke to says he saw at least three Asheville Police cars responding to the scene, and another neighbor told him the high-speed chase down a main road in Oakley involved a suspect in a stolen car.

One neighbor told us he saw the driver going 70 miles an hour down Fairview Road, with police in pursuit.

Photos from the scene show a damaged car being loaded onto a wrecker, and an Asheville Police Department car with front-end damage.

Witnesses think the suspect might have thought there was a cut-through to get out of the neighborhood--but the road dead-ends.

"So when we got home, there were already three cop cars over there," said Oakley resident Ryan Kemmy. "One of the cops jumped out of his car and ran down the hill."

We've reached out to police, but have received no details on the chase.

This is a developing story. Stay with News 13 for more information.
