According to earthquaketrack.com, a 2.4-magnitude quake hit the area near Blowing Rock.

Did you feel it?

The quake happened at about 5:46 a.m. on Sunday.

Small quakes are uncommon but not unheard-of in WNC, and it appears the most recent local quake was December 26, just outside of Robbinsville.

Faults and fractures under the Blue Ridge seldom lead to any shaking that can be felt, and almost never cause damage.

The majority of earthquakes detected have a magnitude of 2.5 or less, and there have been only two quakes with a magnitude 5.0 or greater in the last century and a half.

A 2.4 magnitude quake would be felt only in area near its epicenter, and would cause no damage.
