Village Wine & Spirits re-opens in Price Chopper Plaza

Shopping at the new Village Wine & Spirits location is about more than simply stopping in for a bottle of a favorite beverage, said customer Linda DeMuro of Fayetteville.

“This is really an experience - it’s not just about grabbing a bottle and leaving,” DeMuro said Aug. 29 during the grand re-opening gala in the store’s new location in Hamilton’s Price Chopper Plaza. “It’s really great what they’ve done here - it’s nice to be able to go to a store with such a great atmosphere.”

The evening’s event celebrated the store’s move from their former Lebanon Street location, and featured a wine tasting with cheese and crackers, live music by Ed Vollmer, discounts on beverage purchases, and the chance to inspect the vinopedia computer - the only one of its kind in New York state.

Village Wine & Spirits owner Dave Vantine demonstrated the workings of the all-knowing device, showing how a bar code scanner reads the bottle label to display suitable pairings for the product. The computer monitor even shows a profile complete with trivia about the various beverages.

“You don’t really have to know a lot about the wines to come in here and pick something suitable for your dinner anymore,” Vantine said.

Future plans will include more wine tasting events, he noted, with local chefs from area restaurants coming in to create food and wine pairings. There will also be wine camp activities coming soon as well, he said.

Vantine said the response to the new location was “great,” and he looks forward to serving area customers for all of their adult beverage needs.

Village Wine & Spirits is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday. The Price Chopper Plaza is located on Route 12B in Hamilton.
