Man arrested after domestic assault at Kent General Hospital

The Delaware State Police in coordination with the Dover Police Department and the Smyrna Police Department are investigating a Smyrna man after a report of a violent physical domestic assault.

Mark R. Reedy turned himself in to Troop 3 on Monday, Nov. 23 for failure to appear for a preliminary hearing on strangulation and terroristic threatening charges.

The preliminary investigation revealed that on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at approximately 2:30 a.m. the Dover Police Department investigated a physical domestic assault involving a 52-year-old female victim and her 51-year-old boyfriend Reedy.

This investigation revealed the domestic complaint occurred on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at Kent General Hospital in Dover, as the female victim was visiting Reedy, at which time an argument ensued and he physically assaulted her.

Reedy was released from Kent General Hospital on Thursday, Nov. 12 and subsequently arrested and charged by the Dover Police Department for strangulation and terroristic threatening.

He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace #7 and released on $3,000 unsecured bond pending his preliminary hearing on Monday, Nov. 23.

On Thursday, Nov. 19, the Smyrna Police Department received a Family Court writ of injunction for Reedy which stemmed from the reported domestic assault which occurred on Nov. 10.

It was at this time the suspect was given ample opportunities to comply with the Family Court order to turn over his weapons and which he failed to do.

The Smyrna Police Department, with the assistance of Delaware State Police homicide detectives, made several attempts to serve Reedy at his residence located at 421 Kates Way, Smyrna, but were unable to serve the Family Court order.

On the same day, a short time later a vehicle was seen leaving the suspect’s address and a traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed several weapons were located in the vehicle and were subsequently seized.

On Friday, Nov. 20, the Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team executed a search warrant and attempted to serve the Family Court writ of injunction at the suspect’s residence.

Upon entry into the residence, a dog was encountered and less than lethal force was unsuccessfully used in attempt to subdue the animal.

The animal became aggressive and lethal force was used as a necessary measure for the safety of the officers.

The search warrant obtained for the suspect’s residence was in regards to a pending homicide investigation. This is an active and ongoing investigation and more information will be released as it becomes available.

Reedy turned himself in Nov. 23. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace #2 and released on $3,000 unsecured bond pending a preliminary hearing in Kent County Superior Court.
