Staff Report

PETERSBURG — The price of higher education is rising, but at Richard Bland College of William & Mary, for the 2016-2017 school year, the increase in tuition is nominal, the college reports.

An emailed statement from the school reads, "Richard Bland College of William & Mary will continue its longstanding commitment to affordability and student success in 2016-2017 by keeping costs among the most competitive in Virginia."

Full-time, in-state students will pay $238 per credit hour per semester, representing an $8 increase, a 3 percent increase. The rate for out-of-state students will increase from $637 to $658 per credit hour for each semester, also representing a 3 percent increase.

Richard Bland College’s tuition will remain below the maximum federal Pell Grant program of $5,815, ensuring that students with financial need can graduate from Richard Bland College completely debt-free, the college reports.

“RBC is very appreciative of the Governor and General Assembly’s added investment in higher education over the 2016-2018 biennium,” says Richard Bland College’s President, Dr. Debbie Sydow. “This added support from the state, along with a nominal tuition increase, will enable the College to deliver a first-rate education without burdening students with big debt.”

According to the residential, two-year school, Richard Bland College offers a wide array of scholarships and financial aid totaling more than $3.6 million dollars for FY17.
