Ogden man sentenced to prison for forgery

On July 26, a Boone District Court judge sentenced Troy Lavern Dickerson, 48, of Ogden, to five years in prison with the Iowa Department of Corrections for the charge of forgery. This is a class D felony, which carries a penalty from probation up to five years in prison.

According to the Complaint and Affidavit filed with the court on April 20: Officers with the Boone Police Department investigated a forged check passed at Wal-Mart. The male on Wal-Mart’s security video passing the forged check, Boone Police identified as Dickerson. The amount of the forged check was $575.08. The original holder of the check was a business out of Lake City.

Dickerson pled guilty to the District Court on July 26, to the crime of forgery in violation of Iowa Code section 715A.2(1). A sentencing hearing was held after the guilty plea. After the guilty plea, Boone County Attorney Daniel Kolacia argued to the court to impose the maximum penalty of five years in prison due to Dickerson’s lengthy criminal history dating back 26 years. The defendant requested probation. The court agreed with the County Attorney’s Office and sentenced Dickerson to a sentence of five years with the Iowa Department of Corrections.

The Boone Police Department handled the investigation of the case, and the case was prosecuted by the Boone County Attorney’s Office.
