Listen Live
Buncombe CountyIn Buncombe, the service is available to all of downtown Asheville and to the surrounding area as far as 4-6 miles from the transmitter sites. Our transmitters are currently located on the Vanderbilt Building at 75 Haywood St, which broadcasts to the North and Northeast, and at the city-owned White Fawn tower on Beaucatcher Ridge, which broadcasts to the East, South and West. Anyone who can see a transmitter site (by eye, binoculars or telescope), and is within that site's broadcast region, will most likely be able to receive service even at extended distances of up to 15 miles. MAIN is working to provide wireless Internet throughout the city of Asheville using an innovative wireless “mesh” technology. This network is currently operating in the following Neighborhoods:
If you live in or near one of these neighborhoods, you might already have access to MAIN’s wireless Internet service. Visit the MAIN WiFi page to learn more.
* Inquire for higher speeds – only available in some areas. ** Minimum charge includes up to 3 hours of labor and all hardware required for a basic installation. Additional time will be billed at $50/hr and cost for additional hardware, materials and labor will be due at the time of installation. Please fill out an inquiry form to find out whether you are within range. Even if you know you are not in range, submitting an inquiry will inform us of neighborhoods with strong interest in wireless, and encourage us to build our network there. Ask your neighbors to send in their inquiries and support, too! |
