Flooding From Hurricanes Francis and Ivan September 8-17, 2004

Little East Fork RoadThe Little East Fork River all but overwhelmed the Little East Fork Road. Damage seen here is from Francis. Fortunately, even after Ivan had done its worse, the road remained open to traffic. For many in the community the Little East Fork Road is the only way in and out. As one can imagine there was a lot of damage to all the underground utilities. After the flood they took awhile to get back to working order. At least we know what to expect when it gets "heavy" again.
Rick HallDuring the second flood, Ivan, the Lake Logan-Cecil Volunteer Fire Department found itself treading water just like everyone else. The station which sits on the west bank of the West Fork of the Pigeon River, was evacuated along with personnel, vehicles, and valuable equipment. Many of the firefighters including Rick, moved to higher ground around the Inman Chapel. The pews made for tough sleeping for one stormy night, but sanctuary took on a whole new meaning for many of us. We had much to be thankful for as the Lake Logan Dam held.
