HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — Interstate 26 has reopened after major flooding shut it down in Polk and Henderson counties, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
As of 8:50 am - US 176 is still closed at Harmon Field Road - there is substantial damage along the roadway including flooding, washouts and mud slides according to the city of Tryon.
Authorities diverted traffic off the the interstate at Exit 54 onto Highway 25 overnight Friday into Saturday morning.
Henderson County deputies said there was four feet of water near the Saluda Grade, and people had been trapped in that high water.
