MILLS RIVER, N.C. (WLOS) — Following a disturbance at a Henderson County campground Saturday evening, April 13, a chase ensued with a suspect which led to an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and deputies, officials said.
A spokesperson for Henderson County Sheriff's Office said that at about 6:07 p.m. Saturday, deputies responded to a disturbance at North Mills River Campground where it was reported a man had a gun and was threatening people.
Once units arrived on the scene, a chase ensued with the suspect. Officials said the suspect crashed his van, followed by shots being fired from the van, which led to an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and responding deputies.
Per protocol with officer-involved shootings, the deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation.
Authorities declined to comment on whether there were any injuries in the shooting.
Henderson County Sheriff's Office said there would be no further information released at this time.
